Nacho Ormaechea is an artist and graphic designer located in Paris. Below is his statement about his project “Le Carnet Noir” (Eng: The Black Book, in reference to the notebook he uses to note down his thoughts.) This project is of particular interest to me because one rarely get to witness first-hand the thought process of an artist. This series are simply the thoughts and images that crosses one’s mind and extracted on prints.
“My days, and I guess some of yours too, are full of overflowing information invading my computer: clients mails, briefs, social-networking and too much visual material meant to “nourish our inspiration”. Sometimes we feel we just need to STOP, take a deep breath and THINK. Looking for creative freedom without specifications or deadlines or budgets, only a strong desire to create for the need to express.
A café au lait in one hand… LE CARNET NOIR becomes the white pages where I note down all the thoughts and images that cross my mind. Some of them will end up in a trash eventually but others will become a great source of inspiration and grow as these personal graphic projects.”
