I bumped into Jürgen Heckel’s work upon his portfolio on Behance. Heckel is a sound artist and photographer born in Nuremberg, been living in Paris, and is no located in Munich, Germany. The artist has an interesting take on the colour and exposure treatment of nature. Namely in this series titled “Vegetal”, Heckel perceives nature with an overwhelming sensation of dimness as if these plants are looked under a cloudy gloomy skies besides the every so cold Scottish seas. The photographer’s use of the shallow depth-of-field, too, emphasize the smallness of these life forms down to a macro level. They have become in turn portraits of these plants, full of life and also full of character. I wonder, given Heckel’s background as a sound artist, what kind of sound will these photographs depict, whether it is the sound of wind blowing the grass from standing still, or the sound of raindrops splashing on the leaves.
