I don’t know about you, but after a few days of feeling less than healthy, I want to clean my environment to reduce vectors for bacteria and illness to take root. We can not clean the world and everywhere we walk, but we can keep a clean home where we spend our time.
Prevention is easier than cleanup. Mould in your home is no different. Once it takes hold it can be very stubborn and destructive for your health and home. Mould removal gel, sprays, aerosols, wipes, and concentrated liquids are available for prevention and cleanup. Nasal and sinus congestion, eye irritations, breathing issues, throat irritation, skin rashes, headaches, and more can all be caused by mould in your home. Black mould is especially sinister.
Black mould will cause respiratory illness in you, your family, and your pets. Allergies and asthma are more likely and have increased symptoms in a black mould environment. If you can see black mould, it has spread much further than you think. Fungi began to develop on our planet 1.5 billion years ago. They had a tremendous head start on us and are partially responsible for our existence as you and I have around 39 trillion microbial cells in our bodies right now.
That microbiome wants to protect its home. Our immune systems trigger responses to foreign mould by releasing inflammatory chemicals. This process and chemicals were developed during our evolution. Chronic exposure will drain the immune system and weaken us for other outside illnesses to strike.
Preventing mould in your home will prevent your immune system from weakness, thereby preventing illnesses. There are environmentally conscious formulated cleaners that can keep your home free of mould and hazardous chemicals.
My mother would dilute vinegar in water as a cleaner. Distilled white vinegar is a natural astringent and can dry out oil on your skin and clean the kitchen oil easily. She also ran it through the coffee maker to clean out the internal orifices and reduce bitterness.
She cleaned our floors with diluted ammonia. Add 200ml into 3l of water and revive tile and laminate floors, spot cleaning with gloves. Ammonia is used extensively to transport and store hydrogen in our green fuel industry.
Those are some inexpensive and eco-friendly fluids to use in cleaning your home. The only negative is the odours, which do dissipate over a short period of time. I feel it is far more responsible using these over-caustic but flowery chemicals.
If you have mould issues due to a flood, fire, or other natural disaster your state or territory has grants and subsidy programs to assist you. They know how black mould spreads, destroys, and kills. Tearing out the interior of your home after serious events is necessary and costly.
Grants are funded one time. When the money is gone the grant will close until a new one is approved. Get your applications in as soon as you can. As they will be getting paid from these grants, ask your insurer how to apply for approval.
